On Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays made an unexpected move by optioning Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Buffalo. No extra moves were required because the Blue Jays had an opening on their 40-man roster.

After making his MLB debut in 2019, this is the first time that Cavan Biggio is going back to the minors as an official assignment. He has had rehab games throughout his career in the minors, but this is the first actual time that where he's been sent down for a legitimate reason.

How Has Biggio Done In His MLB Career?

Cavan Biggio was known as somebody who can get on base at a high level. Over his first two MLB seasons, he was an exceptionally patient hitter who had an on-base percentage of .368. However, both of his power and walk numbers took a major step back throughout the past two seasons as he had a line of .224/.322/.326 in his last 80 games.

In his career, Cavan Biggio has a .230 batting average and has belted 31 home runs in 847 at-bats.

How Was He Playing This Year?

In this season, he was 1-23 which is good for a .043 batting average, and struck out 10 times with zero home runs.

Obviously, with some of the injuries that he's had to deal with the past few seasons, it could be the main reason why he has struggled. However, with a team like the Toronto Blue Jays who is looking to win a World Series, they can't wait for young guys to continue struggling. It's a next-man-up type of business and that's exactly what the Blue Jays are doing here.

Will He Be Called Back Up Soon?

It would make sense for the Toronto Blue Jays if they decided to call him up sometime in the next few weeks to a month or two. He's a legit hitter in baseball when he's on his game and despite him struggling the past two seasons, if he can come back and give the same production that he did throughout the 2020 and 2019 season, the Blue Jays are going to be playing him almost every game.

Are The Blue Jays The Best In Baseball?

The Toronto Blue Jays have a legitimate argument as being the best team in all of baseball. The Blue Jays are only 20-17 to start the season, but that's with them not even swinging the bat as well as they possibly can. When this Blue Jays team gets going, they're going to be a tough team for squads like the New York Yankees to beat.
